FM Geotargeting Takes Off: How U.S. Radio Stations Are Using ZoneCasting for Localized Content

GeoBroadcast Solutions (GBS) has announced that four additional U.S. radio stations are moving forward with implementing ZoneCasting, its FM geotargeting technology. These stations, WKTT (Salisbury/Ocean City, MD), KPKL (Spokane, WA), WEIB (Springfield, MA), and KAFF (Flagstaff, AZ), join others already in the process of adopting the system, bringing the total to 12 stations across nine markets.

ZoneCasting allows FM stations to broadcast targeted, hyper-local content using FM booster signals. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) began permitting FM boosters to air original content for up to three minutes per hour as of May 2024, under one-year experimental licenses. Broadcasters must first secure a booster license, then apply for geotargeting authority.
