GeoBroadcast Solutions Urges FCC to Let Boosters Replace Main Transmitters
GeoBroadcast Solutions (GBS), the company behind ZoneCasting and MaxxCasting, has submitted a petition to the FCC urging the agency to allow FM booster systems to fully replace traditional main transmitters. The request is part of GBS’s broader “Delete, Delete, Delete” initiative aimed at modernizing outdated broadcast regulations.
GBS argues that current rules requiring a central high-powered transmitter are outdated, given today’s more advanced, distributed transmission systems. They highlight Las Vegas station Maxima 105.7 (KOAS) as an example, where a low-power FM booster atop The Strat hotel provides better urban coverage than its official high-power transmitter in rural Arizona.
The company claims distributed systems offer improved reliability—especially during emergencies—while reducing environmental impact and operational costs. GBS emphasizes the proposal is optional, not mandatory, and gives broadcasters the flexibility to adopt more efficient infrastructure if desired.
